Issues are going around regarding the accessibility of the SSC officers in Dagupan Campus. I know how hard it is for them to give their full time to fulfill the needs of the students but before running for the position, they should have trained themselves physically, mentally, emotionally and socially. Being an SSC officer is a big responsibility, it is not just a title so that you will enjoy the 100% or 50% scholarship offered by the school or to become “Sikat” or well-known by everybody. On July 03, 2008, the election of the Institute officers from Governor down to Sentinels was conducted. Sad to say that the rules implemented by the SSC regarding the SSC officers who will act as COMELEC will assist the instructors during and after the election in the IEA was unacceptable by most of the students. This was discussed with the student coordinator Mr. Placido Alsiyang because there should be equal distribution of COMELEC from the SSC officers among the 2 Institutes in Dagupan Campus. Instead, there were only two or three SSC officers present to assist. And so, the Student Coordinator admonished us to just close our eyes and so with our ears but this won’t stop me from writing the reality.
The snack for the Instructors who helped during the election which was supposedly catered by the SDF never materialized. Instead, the candidates of IEA joined forces to contribute their own allowances to provide snack for the tired instructors; while the Dean of the IAS provided the snack of the instructors in their Institute.
When we went to the SSC office to make a follow-up for the instructors in IEA, we found out that there were students inside the SSC office who are not officers. One was sitting on the receiving table acting like a president while his two feet were on the table, someone was doing something in-front of the SSC’s personal computer and a girl also was sitting and blocking the entrance of the said SSC office, even though a sign was posted restricting unauthorized persons. Maybe they were authorized to do such things. President Janrey Pascua is nowhere to be found at that time, we talked to the Vice President Dalayday but it seems that he’s busy with other things. On our way back to our building, some students were trying to mimic us – a very unethical and very unprofessional sight. It is a sign of disrespect to anybody who has the sensibility and morality. Where is our code of conduct, my dear schoolmates? They should have waited for us to leave before doing such childish acts. As long as there are issues that should be fixed, problems that should be solved and actions that should be corrected, we wont stop writing these issues, problems and actions. I’m just wondering if the Election of Institute Officers will be included in the accomplishment report of the SSC Officers?
Even though we received no help from the SSC officers, the election in the IEA was a very peaceful one, thanks to Mr. Placido Alsiyang, to the students of IEA who lent their hands and most especially to the Faculty and Staff of the IEA. Job well done! Kudos!!!
